The National Planning Commission and the Ministry of Commerce of the Government of Nepal, in partnership with South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE) jointly organized the Tenth South Asia Economic Summit (SAES X) themed Deepening Economic Integration for Inclusive and Sustainable Development in South Asia on November 2017 in Kathmandu. The aim of this summit was to identify, analyze and prioritize opportunities and challenges in relation to deepening regional economic integration towards achieving inclusive and sustainable development in South Asia, and generating actionable ideas. Avia Nahreen, Senior Research Associate, IPAG was invited to attend the summit as a panelist to share her thoughts and insights on “Issues in Energy Cooperation”. She highlighted the importance of energy in Asia where parties are able to come to power, stay in power and get elected again based on their ability to provide electricity at affordable cost to their constituents.
